Our soft and lightweight garments for next to skin comfort have required several innovations throughout the process from farm to you.
First, the choice of the Rambouillet breed is essential for thin, long, and resilient fibers. This is the starting point for next to skin luxury and utility.
Second, the cleaning of the lanolin and dirt needs to be squeaky clean in order to make a fine yarn.
Third, the superfine fiber diameter and lightweight knit fabric are related. The near impossible tolerances in creating the fabric were possible only by sophisticated spinning technology, available in South Carolina.
Fourth, the industry standard for making “machine washable” garments did not meet our environmental standard, which led us to a new, patented enzyme process.
Fifth, because the sewing operation used a seaming stitch which rubs against the skin, we worked with the sewing machine manufacturer to create a uniquely flat yet stylish look.
Sixth, our colors are from plant based extracts of red madder, indigo, logwood, cutch, osage, and pomegranate. We have created the first commercial scale process for natural dyes in Maine to provide the vibrant luster that only natural dyes can yield.
Last, our experienced designer has creates “S” seams on the women’s garments to keep the shirt from riding up and smooth against the body.
